First Aid for Maternity Care and Babies

During training as a maternity nurse, you'll learn all about pregnancy, childbirth and the maternity period. But imagine if the partner is known to have epilepsy, or a little brother puts a marble in his nose? In those cases, it's good to know and be able to perform the right actions.
But we also cover topics such as fluxus, shock and bleeding that can happen right after delivery in this training. So your knowledge will be completely up to date!

Designed by pediatricians

This course in Life-Saving and First Aid for Maternity Care was designed in collaboration with doctors from the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital and Princess Maxima Center. In this course, you will learn to recognize a (seriously) ill child and know what to do when a child may be in acute life danger.

Life-saving in maternity care

The topics have been chosen based on what our physician-teachers have seen pass (serious) childhood illnesses and/or conditions. The focus of this course is on learning to act when a child is acutely life-threateningly ill. We simulate situations where acting in the first minutes is vital. In addition, we learn the difference between something that seems serious and something that is serious. For example, febrile convulsions, extremely annoying to see but rarely life-threatening. What you will not learn during this course is how to apply band-aids, pierce blisters or put on a sling.

Certificate and accreditation points

After successfully completing the training you will receive the " First Aid to Children" certificate from Het Oranje Kruis, and 8 KCKZ accreditation points in Category A.

Structure of the first aid for maternity care course

E-learning for maternity care

Once you register, you will receive an e-learning within 24 hours. You can go through this e-learning at your own pace at your convenience. By dividing the training, first aid repeat students can go through the e-learning at a faster pace, and novice first aiders can absorb the information at their leisure. In this e-learning all topics are covered and you can make the theory your own. The e-learning takes an average of 4 hours.

Practical training for maternity care

During the 4-hour practical training, much time is spent on actually practicing the skills, such as CPR and use of AED on babies, children and adults. This way it remains an interactive course and actions are practiced directly when it is explained how to apply them. We give the practical training from 6 students at your in-company location. By mutual agreement we arrange the time; morning, afternoon, evening or weekend is all possible for us.

We use state-of-the-art CPR manikins that show directly through an app what you can do to improve CPR. This way everyone gets personalized feedback.
