An accident is in a small corner, no matter how careful you are. Especially in and around the house. Applying a band-aid often works. But what if your child is burned by a cup of hot tea, falls off the dresser or chokes on a grape? Do you know what to do?

Of all children, the emergency room is visited most often by young children. In this 1.5-hour live webinar, 2 pediatricians will teach you what to do in the "most common accidents in infants and toddlers" and you can ask all your questions. Afterwards, you will get access to a reference book and you can go through all the topics covered again at your own pace.

Who is the webinar appropriate for?

The live webinar is a first introduction to first aid for anyone with (grand)children ages 0 through 3 and is easy to follow from home. After attending the webinar, you can attend additional hands-on training at Schok & Pomp where you can practice skills such as CPR, AED, stable side position and choking/choking.

By whom will the webinar be conducted?

The live webinar will be given by Lyan Rodijk, physician with work experience within pediatrics, including emergency medicine and intensive care.

What are we going to talk about?

1. Falls
The most common cause of a hospital visit. For example, children falling down the stairs, a dresser, a chair or a piece of playground equipment.

2. Burns
A major risk in young children. Often because they do not know the dangers. Burns are often caused by hot liquids such as (tap) water, coffee, tea or soup. But also by a hot object or flames.

3. Poisoning
Young children tend to put everything in their mouths. This can lead to poisoning. What if they mistake medicine for candy, take a sip of detergent or take a bite of a mushroom in the woods?

4. Choking and choking
Because oral motor function is not yet optimal, young children have a higher risk of choking. In choking, the trachea is closed. This is not always due to food; small objects can also be the cause.

5. Entrapment
Entrapment is common in young children. Think of fingers caught between the door in the house or car, for example.

6. High fever and febrile seizures
Every child has a fever from time to time, but what do you do when you have a high fever and how do you recognize and act when a febrile seizure occurs?

7. Severe allergic reaction
How do you notice that your child is exhibiting an allergic reaction, and what should you do?

Online we cannot practice CPR, AED, stable side position or choking/choking. Of course, we can show these actions.
